Who we are.....
Well, frank is a family practice physician and also does some GP Anaesthesia. No, he is not Dr. Morgenstern as I didn't take his last name when we were married (his name is also long and German!).
I am an advanced practice nurse with my BScN. We met up north while I was working in the nursing stations and he was the "calm, cool and collect" voice on the other end of the phone! You can see the rest.....
We attend the Summerland Baptist church! I am sure they may disagree with that as we haven't been there all summer! Hey, we're still coming!!!! Frank belongs to a Tuesday morning men’s group that meets weekly to read scripture and pray right in Tim Horton’s.
I took a year off "churchy" things other than attending on Sunday with the family. You may ask, how come.....well, several people said to me, "Karen, how do you do it?" Soap making, quilting, hobby farming,
Girls club, bible study, and home schooling! Wow, just typing that makes me tired! The truth is, I wasn't really doing any of those things very well. I was crabby, I hated wrapping my soap, quilting was frustrating,
the church kids at Girls club were getting on my nerves and I was just plain fed up! Has anyone
read "How to make yourself miserable" by Dan Greenburg? I haven't but I must be featured it! You know, Joyce Meyers writes about a time when she took a year off of her ministry to be "homey" and what she thought was "a real woman"! After a year of absolute torture, cooking, sewing, gardening....she finally realized that God did not put those desires and attributes in her heart for a reason. Joyce Meyers is a wonderful preacher and writer. She realized that God had given her other talents that were just as important and respectable as what she thought a "good woman" was. Coming from a very crafty family, my Mom is a very talented quilter and drawer, my sister is a very gifted and talented knitter and quilter. She has a fantastic web page that is a must see.....www.quiltmommy.blogspot.com, and my Grandma is a gifted knitter! It is very hard to equate "good woman" with talents other than what I have seen and experienced. Thankfully the Lord has softened my heart and opened my eyes to see that a "good woman" can have many other talents and gifts too, and it didn't take me a whole year to figure it out! Anyone else struggle with that Proverbs 31 woman??
Henry Blackaby in his book "Experiencing God" writes about the importance of knowing God's will and direction in your life. If you don't know your direction and path then what are we doing everyday?? Can you relate to that? Do you know what your purpose or direction is? Hard to figure out.....though I can safely say I am sure that God's direction for me is not the frustration and discouragement I was feeling earlier! At least I know where I DON"T want to go!
Home schooling choose us about 4 years ago. Hummmmmmm, how can that be???? Basically, public school was disappointing and the local private school, a nightmare! Home schooling seemed the only logical and realistic choice. I must admit, looking back, I wouldn't change that choice for the world. I love learning right along with the kids....I can't believe I missed so much info when I was in school!!!!!!! What was I doing??? Are you amazed at some things your kids are learning at school too? At this point in our lives we appreciate the freedom that home schooling provides. It also allows us to teach our kids about our Christian values and beliefs and even get credit for it!!!
We applied to be foster parents, jump through the hoops for about a year and had our first experience with fostering. Our 7 day old baby was a gift. One whole week and a weekend of respite and we needed about a month of sleep to recover! Wow, I forgot how tiring babies can be! Fostering is a way our family feels we can give back what we have been given. Our hope is that we would be able to make some small difference in a small ones life!
All right, just so you know, we are your average, next door neighbour family. I have made huge mistakes (like the time I invited a family from NewZealand to live with us in our 3 bedroom house for 3 months….ouch!!) and made choices I am not so eager to share. I hope you will enjoy reading about and experiencing our journey. As we work through His "will" and our place in this complex world, I hope you will glean some new perspectives and ideas too! So this is OUR walk down the road to Emmaus!
